Peck No More

Been reading a lot on the forums (studying, really) and never saw anything on a medicine called Peck No More. I used some and it works!

My silkie got her foot feathers pecked and it bled so everyone including her started going for it. I cleaned it and sprayed it with an antibiotic. At the recommendation of the "chicken lady" at the feed store, I put the Peck No More on it and put her back in the coop with the others yesterday.

It's a sticky thick goo that is dark purple and tastes really bad. It has some healing ingredients as well. The goo sticks well and when they go for it it tastes so bad they run around shaking their heads and wiping their beaks. When it dries it stains everything dark purple and hides blood and redness that is attractive to the chickens.

My white silkie is a mess so I don't recommend it right before a chicken show (ha ha) but just wanted to share my positive experience.

thank you for your info. on peck no more product. i just bought some this morning and put in on my orpington and the RR that pecked at it again wiped her beck excessively trying to get that goo off. it really smells bad too, like caster oil. i hope this works. i have two that are getting pecked at from the RRs. i thought it was mites, but when i examined them i didn't see anything black or red or white crawling around. their vents look good too. the Orp's have remaining poop left on their feathers and that might have been the reason for the pecking to start. plus it's just so darn cold right now i'm sure that stresses them out too. thanks, herbgardenlady

I have been looking for so long to find a solution to our coop pecking, thank you so much for your help! I will try this product right away, our chickens are being pecked around their vent area, is this safe for use in that area? Or do you have another suggestion? thanks again!

I'm using this product right now and it's ok. You have to reapply it every morning (maybe twice a day) and when they dust their feathers it reduces the effectiveness of the goo staying on. Anyone tried Hot Peck spray?

These posts are kind of old, but this "coop pecking" seems to be a common problem.
I posted on another thread here on BYC that most of my Plymouth Rocks have red bare butts that look painful.

I have tried the peck no more but a couple things...first is, the bottle i bought at a local feed store was already 6 years old when i bought it. I asked the woman, is this any good?
She said "IDK, we have old stuff hanging around. Just take its free."
So i took it. Figuring i'd go back and pay her if it works.
The second thing is, as somebody mentioned...you may have to apply this every day?

So i'll order a fresh bottle or two and see what happens and try applying it more often than once a month.

Also thanks for the detailed explanation of how the other chickens react to this stuff if/when they taste it...because i i haven't seen any significant reactions too it so far. But again could be because i'm using a 6 year old bottle so it may have lost some of its potency.
