Peeps in Europe!

The Dimitrovgrad market is mainly on Sunday. I have been there. Need the whole day to walk through... Have you been there or want to go?

The green shelled CZ dominant - I have these and they are laying ok. I bought eggs from the exclusive importer in Bulgaria and hatched them on a broody. I bought eggs from 5 CZ Dominant breeds : Exchequer, Black Leghorn, the green shelled, the dark brown shelled and Sussex. I hatched them all on broody hens. Black Leghorns - all died around 2-3 months of age. Sussex- didn't hatched well, but what hatched is OK. Exchequer - didn't hatched well and subsequently 1/2 died. Anyway, overall I am not impressed by healthiness of the chick's. Looks like hybrids are not so strong and no immune system at all.

I might travel to bulgaria in april, not sure yet. do they sell poultry in the dimitrovgrad market?

as for cz dominant I agree they have health issues. I guess inbreeding is the cause.

Interested - are there (exclusively) chicken markets/exhibitions in your country? Anywhere in Europe...

we had a big sunday market outside athens but police and false ecologists chased people away. there are only gypsies now that sell hybrids. they are in greater number than police and ready to kill so police let them stay.

YES! Will definitely meet As for Dimitrovgrad market - the last time when I was there was poultry poor. Mainly pigeons, bantams and Indian peacocks. Even they were not many. I am keeping an eye on some Bulgarian Facebook groups and I'll let you know if we have some shows/exhibitions.

I wouldn’t buy livestock on a market bc it’s an easy way to bring parasites or diseases into your flock.

Buying eggs to hatch would be interesting though. Especially in April.

I don't think pure breeds are sold at market. if I go I'll get eggs or chicks from breeders. some diseases can be passed through eggs as well, especially mycoplasma.

There are times I have to use the search to find the thread as well. Even though I subscribed to the thread! Guess it is some bug in the system.

Collecting hatching eggs right now. But things are not going well. Only two hens are laying atm. I will set them next week Thursday. I hope to get eggs from the other two hens as well.
