Pelletising Grass ??

Some people plant grass seed in a shallow tray. They let it sprout and when it is the size they want (1 inch, 3 inches,...) They set it out for their chickens. So, the chickens are getting new baby grass, not grass that has gone to seed. I have seen YouTube.com videos of it.

Good idea, but the amount of trays that I would have to grow even for a handful of birds would make it near impossible. It would probably be more advantageous to grow it in a shade house with irrigation, but if we end up in drought again irrigation becomes a problem so I was thinking along the lines of being able to store it while conditions are good.

I think making wee bales of hay for the chickens is not a bad idea. Mine swiped hay from the sheep during the winter (lots of snow). I have seen a very small baler that was quite inexpensive, but the bales would probably be too small for your needs.

Good luck in figuring this out.
