Hey everyone! I have a question! We just got a awesome new feeder and waterer! We normally use laying pellets, but it seems this “gravity” feeder would work better with laying crumbles. What are your thoughts... Are crumbles better for the chickens? Who prefers pellets vs crumbles? Thanks!

I have different feeders but found my RIRs wasted far less when using the pellets. They dig far more of the crumble out of the feeder and onto the ground than they do the pellets. I've seen no difference in the chickens' health using one or the other.

That's a pretty cool set! There's no nutritional difference between crumble and pellets. If you already feed pellets, give it a go- they may work. I feed pellets because the chickens seem to prefer it and it appears to have less waste.

Thanks! This feeder is supposed to help prevent waste. I’ll the crumbles and see what works best!

Thank you! We wanted more room in the coop and found these! Easy to fill cause it’s attacked right to the door! Hopefully they like it too! 😂 lets hope the can figure out how to work it 🤞

We used to use crumbles, but the chickens tend to make a smaller mess with the pellets. Many of our friends with chickens had told us this and it works! (Although i prefer pellets, it comes down to whatever works best for you!) 🙃 🙂

Pellets all the way hands down. That feeder is fine with pellets. Also when you get sick of the water cups you should be able to put horizontal nipples in there place.
Thanks! We have a 5 gallon bucket outside the coop in the run with nipples. Is there an issue with the cups? Do you have this feeders?

Cups just require alittle more attention because they get dirty. They also freeze in the winter aside from that they are great. I have feeders that I made that are on the same design as what you have.
You can see it in my article sections

Thanks! I’ll check it out! We priced making our own and it only saved us $5 for the size we needed to fit the inside of the door. No worries about freezing here in Florida 😉😂
