Hi everyone,

I'm doing some research about keeping backyard chickens in Pennsylvania, and I've come to a dead end in regards to removal of chickens. In a scenario where someone has violated enough regulations that the local authorities have to remove the chickens because of, say, overpopulation or environmental complaints (not disease-related), what happens to the chickens? Do they get transferred to an animal shelter or euthanized regardless of their health? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

what part of pa do you live in? It depends on where in pa you live and the specific towns on how they are dealt with. However if it's not a major city and unless you have a rooster that isn't allowed then nothing will happen 99% of the time even if rules are broken.

Basically what @Logar said. Seeing how valuable chickens are nowadays because of all the egg shortages, they would most likely go to an animal shelter and be rehomed. But if you live in the country you don't have much of anything to worry about. And in suburb/urban areas if you don't have a rooster you don't really have anything to worry about either.

I'm actually writing an article about keeping chickens in PA. I'm aware that rules and regulations vary from county to county, and even townships. I guess the question is, are there any regs that say a seized chicken will be euthanized? I'm not suggesting that this applies to all of PA, but more checking with PA chicken owners if they're aware of any such consequence anywhere in PA.
