Love the little yellow one!!, what is it? Got another one for you...where did you get those baskets?...so nice with the front 'cut-out'!!..i am still looking for something better to put into the nest area of the coop. I have a bin right now, but all Ginger does in throw the nesting stuff every where, then lays her egg in the sand on the coop floor..Well, to continue the baby theme of the night....
Gracie and Pidgy each hatched out a brood of chicks almost 5 wks ago, and last weekend we got another broody hatch from our hen Janeway, and actually, her chicks are all from our own flock of mixed breeds, so pretty cool to watch them.
first trip out and about in the 'play pen'
Peek-a-boo!
Well, a few days ago Gracie decided she was done being broody with her crew and she went back to her roost, they are nearly 5 wks old and were doing fine, but obviously missed their mama hen.... We decided to put Janeway and her bunch into the big broody area with Pidgy and her crew and the crew of 'orphans' as Radioman calls them. Lo and behold the first night after she was in with them we go to lock them up for the night and find that Janeway has adopted the orphans! So she now has 6 of her own (1 wk olds) and 4 of Gracie's (5wks old) and they seem to be all quite happy with the set up! Got this pic of them tonight before we locked up. If you look closely to the lower left of Janeway's chest you will see a little puffy white head peeking out... that happens to be one of Gracies chicks, and in fact is a mini Gracie, (white Silkie mix from one of Gracie's eggs)
and the second shock of the night was that I didn't find Gracie up on the roost with the other birds like she has been the past 3 nights...
I FOUND HER BACK IN HER BROODY BOX!!! I snapped a pic, just to show Radioman... we are hoping she's just back in her broody spot because she likes the basket or something, because I never would have thought she'd get back to being broody within a week of seperating from her last batch of chicks! Geesh, she's only laid 3 eggs so far! Hoping she is back out and about with the flock tomorrow and this is just a phase!

I am so tired, but like to catch up. Lily had her kids today too, she was NOT going to be outdone by 'Houdini'. Lily gave us a girl and boy, so glad I got at least one girl. I am emotionally and physically exhausted. But can't seem to stop checking on things out there. MsLadyHawke came by to help me out, Thank You!
Me too...they usually lay eggs in the driveway. So cute!! I love to watch them and love their call. Glad he saved them.
Nice! Huh? Guy lactating just to lactate? The things we do to prove things to women.Yep, dates back to the Egyptians if I remember correctly, and I think it was used to help nursemaids continue to lactate in between kids, I could be wrong...now I gotta look it up.
I don't know why, but this info reminds me of the guy who proved men can lactate without taking female hormones...yep gonna be one of those days.
That's awesome
?
Not quick enough, she called me as soon as I started to get comfortable to tell me the results.. So I had to drive back out to Quakertown at 7 last night.. needless to say i am really tired of driving! lol I will find a way to keep this Rooster also! Antibiotics, and the Dr Visit, costs to run the tests! UGH!! lol But he will be good as new in no time! Fingers Crossed that is all it is, as that is treatable, I Will also be having Chad Come out to Vac-innate all my girls & Send out blood tests And this weekend the coop will be getting a good scrub down, and new feeders, and a makeover using sand in on the floor, some poop catcher thingyies.. Going to be busy busy busy!!!Quote:

And let's keep the good news going! semi good news anyways!!
UPDATE!! I broke down and took Lil Dave to the vet! I know have a pretty expensive Roo that I will need to find a home..hmmmm.. BUT! His Poo came back with high levels of Cocci, so it is treatable and hopefully that was the cause of his issue, a few weeks of antibiotics and hopefully good as new!!!
Wow, that was quick!
