You may remember the uphill battle my BLR Wyandotte Penny Marshall has faced for the past 18 months.

I wanted a place where I could keep her besties updated on her continued stabilized progress.

In return I ask for only positive vibes here as that, love and sunshine 🌞 has been the key to Penny's progress and healing.

Let's enjoy the ride... I know Penny is!

18 months of battling this out takes real patience and devotion. Kudos to you for being able to push through with her! Curious, has her personality changed or warmed up through you treating her? I've had one of mine completely learn to trust me just from a few weeks of indoor treatments.

She was always lower in the flock- she has always been and continues to be sweet and lovely 😍 Most days she tolerates my fussing- but at this point she is almost 100% self sufficient ❤️

Penny's day starts early- 6 am

I noticed several months ago that although she has an appetite and loves eating her layer pellets she has trouble connecting with food. As a result she was not eating her daily amount (3/4 cup) and not as strong as she could be. She drinks just fine so I didn't have much worry there. Each morning I take her layer pellets and mix it with warm water. I then take the mixture and roll them into smaller balls (I got this idea after I watched her successfully devour her favorite treat- blueberries!) Making it a little larger for her allowed her to pick it up with her beak and swallow it whole. I weigh and 20250116_061326.jpg measure out 3/4 cup or 120 grams- the proper amount daily for a laying hen and put it in a dish that secures to the hardware cloth in the Penny Penthouse. I bring it out to her every morning with her fresh water so she can eat throughout the day. I also leave regular pellets and scratch and peck seeds at the bottom of the dish as an incentive to eat the food to get to the good stuff in the bottom. It's kind of like drinking the cereal milk after yout favorite chocolate cereal is eaten as a kid lol 😆
