My chicks just turned 5 weeks old today.

How do they look?

Delilah. A 5 week old Black Australorp. Friendly, smart, out going. Always one of the first to come for treats.

Hazel. 5 Week old Barred Plymouth Rock. Very sweet! Freindliest one of all. Loves human attention. (Even once the treats are gone!)

Kitty. 5 week old Speckled Sussex. Friendly. Sometimes switches from "peeps" to "clucks" already. Is beautiful and she knows it.

Lola. 5 Week old Easter Egger. Independently minded. Not as friendly as the others, but is coming around, at least when treats are involved. (Sorry for the bad picture of her, but she wasn't cooperating.)

Sassafras. 5 Week old Easter Egger. Shyest of the group, but coming along with treats.

Maple. 5 week old Buff Orpington. Friendly, inquisitive. Enjoys sitting (and pooping) on people's shoulders!

Shirley. 5 Week old Columbian Wyandotte. Somewhat freindly. Independent.

Sophie. 5 Week old Silver Laced Wyandotte. Freindly and sociable. I know her lacing isn't very well developed, but she makes up for it by being sweet natured.

We're not sure if Shirley may be a roo. She was about 1-2 weeks behind the others in feather developement. Her comb isn't as developed ad Sophie, the other Wyandotte, but it is wider. Any guesses? Here is a pic of the two together.

Just gorgeous! Not to hijack your post but at what age did you stop with a heat lamp? I have a three day old, and would like to eventually lower my electric bill!

I don't consider this a hijack.

Right now, I mainly only use the heat lamp at night. At 5 weeks of age, they need it at 75 degrees F., and most days here in Maine, are over that. (not yesterday though... didn't get above the upper 60's!)
If your chick is only 3 days old, you will need the heat lamp for awhile longer. Chicks need 95 degrees for the first week. The temperature can be lowered by 5 degrees each week thereafter.

awww Sophie looks JUST like my Bo... who turns 5 weeks old tomorrow, so that confirms she's a SLW

Cute pictures. My SLW look to be this age. My EE & CM look to be younger still. I thought they were at the 5wk mark since we'd had them a week but I guess not yet.
