Pigeon nestboxs and roosts?

Last edited:
Hi... pigeons are not fussy about where they nest... I make use of anything I can find... including..............

Cardboard boxes lined up on the coop floor against the wall, (these are good as you can throw them away when dirty) (you can cut a big hole in the side as an entrance)

Plastic kitchen stack shelves... I stand these on a shelf at the back of the coop. Line the plastic mesh shelves with newspaper.. and throw away the paper when dirty.

Wooden boxes that I made.. (Photo below)

I have even used old plastic paint cans.. with big hole cut in the side.

In terms of size.. they just need to be big enough to hold the adult pair and 2 youngsters. Some people make the nest boxes very big.. and put in 2 nests.. so the pair can move over to start the next one.. while the young as still in there from the first batch.

I don't do that.. because I find the older young will pester the sitting adults on the new eggs and poop on them... also a big box makes it easy for a stranger bird to come in and fight with the nesting birds... which can lead to broken eggs or scalped young.

Wooden shallow boxes (I put in mesh floor so poop can fall through.. I life up the box and scrape out the poop under it about once a week..and also sprinkle mite killer powder under the box sometimes).

You can see the wire mesh.. (Also keeps my birds cooler as its very hot here in Thailand).

cardboard box nest.. I just got a big box and cut it to size. Placed it in a dog crate.

Cardboard box. Nest. Use once and they throw away. Light weight, recycled and FREE).

@jak,
Good ideas u use too, but i put devider in nest box so older young don't bother younger ones or eggs.. though sometimes older homer young will sit nestledin with younger ones or eggs n keeping each other warmer i guess n parents then need not sit in nest every sec. hahaha
