Pigeon Talk

I was looking for some Dove or pigeon eggs I could incubate this winter for a pet. Would anyone on here be able to give me any references? I live in PA, and this would be a family raising some baby birds as a pet.
Just wanted to inform you this.
Doves, and pigeons are completely different from Chicken chicks.
When pigeons hatch,,, the mom and dad, feed the babies (commonly 2) crop milk. That runs out in about 1 week. Then the mom, and dad, feed babies regurgitated feed to them. (there is crop milk in that as well) After about 20 days, and up to about 30, the feeding duty is left to dad.

Yes, it is possible to hatch and raise pigeons/doves in incubator. BUT,,,,, that gets to be a COMPLEX project.

Consider getting some bantam chicken eggs. Your family will enjoy them just the same. Quail, can also be incubator hatched, with no problem.

I see that you are a new BYC member. :highfive:

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

Lost the first baby that ever hatched from the initial pair of pigeons that I got back in 2018. (Dad died October of 23, Mom died this January). This baby (Bugsy) was found dead this morning. 6 years, 6 days old. Her hatchmate died at just a few days old, but I still have several of her own offspring left in the flock.

RIP Bugsy. ❤️
