Hi there! So my girl bluey started laying eggs last week but her comb and wattles never turned deep red like her sister benni. I'm just curious, is it possible for a hen to start laying even though the comb and wattles aren't fully developed yet? They were this color pink from before she started laying as well. Her sister was nice and red like in the picture before she started 2 weeks ago. Bluey isn't acting sick and i have checked for mites and didnt see anything. She's also been laying an egg consistently every day. This is my first time raising chickens so I'm just hoping I'm worrying for nothing lol.

Thanks so much for any help!

It's definitely possible -mine did, and they still have small, pink combs and wattles (even though they're 3 years old now).
If she is otherwise fine, i wouldn't worry.

Yes, you are worrying for nothing as long as she is acting healthy. Pale combs and wattles can, may, might, occasionally, sometimes, potentially indicate a possible problem but there is also a strong possibility that nothing is wrong. Go by how she acts more than anything else. From what you describe and those photos I would not worry.

Each chicken is an individual. They each have their own personality. They start laying when they are ready, not when others are ready. Some like certain foods more than others. Even if they are the same breed with the same parents they can look different. That can be size, feather pattern, body conformation, and even how big or red their combs and wattles get.

That is a good question because you did not know. Never be afraid to ask a question on here, how else are you going to learn. If there is something going on you need to be concerned about we'll try to help you, but hopefully we can reassure you that things are fine most of the time. Like this time.

Thank you so much for the reassurance! I really appreciate it. We've already lost 4 to a dog attack and one we had to get rid of because it was a rooster. So now we're left with 3 so I don't think I can bare to lose another if it's something I could have prevented lol. They have definitely turned into my babies 😂😂
