Please educate me on Scaly Leg Mites

Hi guys. So I read that chicken breeds with feathery legs are more prone to scaly leg mites. I am pretty much at this point planning on switching my whole flock to Brahmas. I have a few questions about the topic.

1. How to identify scaly leg mites?
2. How do birds get scaly leg mites?
3. How to treat scaly leg mites?
4. How to prevent scaly leg mites?


I would appreciate any insight! I just want to be proactive! Thank you

We always treated our girls with Pyrethrin spray but a recent search on the rspca website recommended using Exzolt which we used successfully for lice and mites. 2nd dose just given so hopefully it will be as effective on scaly leg mite.

I wonder if is would work for scaly leg mites (Knemidocoptes mutans) too.
