Hi everyone,

Please help with the sex of my peachick - it should be around 12 to 14 weeks old - really guessing here.

It is starting to get colors on its head (green/blueish) and on the neck also. It started off green, but is getting a blueish color now, when the light falls on it.

Is also fans it's tail feathers at birds, and sometimes at us 😂

We want to get it a mate, but would like to know the sex before we do that.

Thanks

At that age the only way i know to sex is how much barring is on the wing/flight feathers. Males have dark barring, females have light or none. From the pictures it looks to have little to no barring.
Thank you. There are some barring, but not a lot. The only thing throwing me off, is the color that is coming through

The thick, wide bars you see are singular on an otherwise plain grayish feather. They will molt away soon leaving plain-looking feathers. At this age, the color doesn't mean much as chicks will molt many times in their first year.
Thank you for explaining.

Any advice, on what to look for at chicks at around 7 to 9 weeks old, when we purchase the mate, as we obviously now need a peacock

IB cocks at that age will have more of an orangish color and the barring will be thinner and multiple on the feathers. You would be better off to wait until around 12 weeks when they are more pronounced. There are many photos here in the forum of side by side comparisons and also look in the Stickie Threads I think for the Basic Genetics thread that will help you a lot.
