Hi ladies and gents. I am brand new here. Need immediate help with my almost 2 year old white leghorn hen. It’s been almost 72 hours since we noticed symptoms. She can’t stand well, when she tries she uses her wing as a crutch then falls down and stays there. Not eating and drinking. No eggs and do not feel an egg like she’s egg bound. Her vent is pulsing like crazy and her belly is swollen. The bottom of her belly that feels like bone is starting to really push on her skin. Her comb started to turn black when we put her in an epson salt bath but has gone back to red today. Any ideas if it’s treatable or should we do the humane thing and put her down? She is currently inside and quarantined from flock. She is my son’s baby so it’s hard to make the call but I don’t want her to suffer much longer.

Welcome to BYC! So sorry about your hen. How is she now?

It sounds like she probably has a reproductive issue, possibly egg yolk peritonitis or salpingitis. Unfortunately once you catch it, its likely too late to treat it. A picture would help to see how she's looking.
Since you can't treat it, all you can do is offer supportive care measures. One thing you can do is drain the abdomen of fluid to relieve the pressure on her organs.
Try giving her some meat or eggs and see if she eats it. If she doesn't, you could try adding water to feed until you can make it into balls and just pop those into her mouth.

In addition to the good suggestions given by @Tookie in post #2, I would also give her Extra Calcium. You can find Calcium Citrate with D3 in the vitamin aisle of stores like Walmart, CVS, etc. Give 1 tablet daily, just pull down on her wattles, pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.
