Plexiglass windows

@Dogfish Love that window! Just sent my hubby the link to this post so he can do the same! We have a plexiglass window, but its just screwed in and I want the option of opening it on those hot summer day. Thanks for posting this

Thanks everyone for some wonderful ideas! I am going to try and start the windows today. I finished the nesting box yesterday. I will post pictures as soon as I have enough posts to allow me to. Buff Orpington chicks are a week old now and getting barred rocks today!

like Pat said and Dogfish showed.....avoid drilling and screwing the plexi/lexan and you will be fine. Be sure to leave room for it to expand a little bewteen the wood and you are golden.

I love these!! I have been redoing a 65 year old chicken coop (would have been cheaper to build a brand new one-I could really kick myself right now) and I have been looking for a way to put a lot of windows in the coop-for both light and ventilation. I am going to print these pics and go home right now and build them! Great looking windows. And just what I need since my coop will be a minature version of my cabin. Love the rustic look.

I just built a 30x35 in window. I have no pictures but the process was simple. Rather than cutting a dado, I glued and screwed a 1x3 and a 1x2 flat sides together so that they were flush at the outside. I made the directions off the joints in opposite directions so that it was sort of a lapjoint. then I put the plexiglass down and secured with .75x.5 molding of which I built a grid. nailed the molding to the frame, no need to pierce the plexiglass.

here's my windows all I did was run some treated 2x4s through the table saw to leave a channel for the Plexiglas to sit and no screws just run a continues bead of a strong clear silicone and press the window in wipe off the exes and let them dry very strong very easy
