Hello! :cafLooking to order 10 or so jumbo coturnix quail chicks or hatching eggs for use for both meat and eggs. I could use any and all recommendations you fine folk have. Ill create a poll of the places I know that sell them, then if you have anywhere I missed, etc; please comment your recommendations in the thread and ill add it in!!:thumbsup

Thanks Much, Happy Monday :wee:wee

1) Orchard Hill Poultry
2) Myshire Farm
3) James Marie Farms

In that order. I've hatched from all the above and average a 75% hatch rate on total eggs set and over a 90% hatch rate on viable eggs at lockdown. Orchard Hill gets his breeding stock from Robbie at JMF and his birds ended up significantly bigger than the JMF birds I ordered.

Myshire farms are great to work with. James Marie Farms may eventually send you paid for eggs.

:lau That is kind of the one downside. Don't order from them if you want super quick turnaround. Some of the best stock in the country though, and least inbred (closest to imported sources).

We have a mid-june box of eggs on reserve from them right now.

Myrshire is great for convenience! They have everything and they have it quick and easy to order. We did have one issue with a less batch with far less correct color than ancipated (~60% true in what should be a truebreeding color), but that's just one anecdote and if you want mixed colors it certainly shouldn't matter.

The only other reason I have not ordered from myrshire is because everyone else in the U.S. has, and I am trying to preserve my genetic diversity and distinctness to keep my trading options always open :D

I will throw out a mention for one other smaller birdery, Acadiana Aviaries, that a lot of my best and most rare stock has come from. Great prices, super helpful guy. He's got a super old website but more updated eBay listings. Don't have jumbos so didn't mention them before but will in case anyone else reads this thread and feels like poking around for them. He's cajunboy on eBay.

There's one other small aviary on eBay that my NICEST single bird came from that I can't in good conscience recommend after they sent my package early without tracking information and it sat outside frozen all night. 4/50 eggs hatched, including a hideous cyclops thing. They were a butt about it. :rant
