Is iron safe for the chicks or can they be susceptible to metal poisoning. Will regular poly-vi-sol work? Any other recommendations for water additions? This is for baby chicks.

Now I also need to know what to do for baby quail. Any advice appreciated.

Poultry nutridrench is great and I would recommend it.

You should not give birds the polyvisol with iron. They MUST have it without iron.

You could also try something like save a chick probiotics and electrolytes.

What are you needing help with about quail? Sorry I didn't understand what your question was.

Just wondering if quail could use the same nutrients and vitamins that i give my chicks. first time hatching quail.

I agree with @chickendreams24 get some Poultry Nutri-Drench. This can be used for all fowl. It's formulated for birds, so there's no guessing.

You can put it in the water per directions on the bottle or direct dose each chick with 1-2drops per day for a few days.

So I really messed up and I’m feeling really bad because I just used poly vi sol with iron on my chicken who hasn’t been eating and WAS getting better. She just hasn’t eaten much in 2 weeks so I wanted to try to help her. I thought because other products for chickens (like poultry cell) have iron that the poly vi sol that has iron would be ok but you guys are saying no. I will never use it again. There’s nothing I can do now. She’s kind of acting like she just took a drink (but has not), and she’s not moving around at all, just laying there. I feel so bad that I wasn’t careful enough. I really want her to make it. I’ve been babying her through the past month. She’s a 6 year old RIR recovering from an infection and WAS doing better until I tried to help her too much😥

:hugs Tracy, it was probably o.k. to give her the Poly Vi Sol since she's an adult, but I would probably not give her any more. I don't think you have done anything wrong.

I looked at your other thread, I assume it's the same 6yr old hen you were previously asking about? I'm very sorry that your hen is not doing well. I have to agree that likely she's suffering from a reproductive issue. The hunkering down, the color of that poop, her age - sadly in older hens a lot of times no matter what you do they don't recover.
If it's been going on for a month it makes it even harder since you have given her good care and devoted time to her. I'm very sorry she's not improving, sometimes no matter what we do a lot of times a laying hen is suffering from a condition that they just cannot overcome.

That is exactly the same hen. Ginger was doing SO MUCH BETTER before I gave her the wrong ploy-vi-sol. She wasn’t hunkering down quite so much and she’d walk around a little albeit with her tail low. We shall see how she does overnight. If I ended up giving her metal poisoning, I hope she doesn’t suffer long. It is so hard to know exactly what is going on. I know I’m only trying to improve the quality of what little time she has left. Thank you so much for your kind words and support. It means the world to me.

How is she today?
