Hi All,
I just got my 10 baby bantam chicks on Tuesday and everything seems good. I only have one question...most of their watery little poop stains are different shades of lite yellow (on the paper towels) but there are some (a very small percentage) that are brown stains. Is this normal? All are eating and drinking great (like little piggies). I will post pictures soon.

Thanks!

Hi Lisa-

There are a few types of poo for chicks. You'll see the normal poo which has the dark center with the white stuff around it, and then you'll see some other poo, called "cecal droppings". Those are more of a rich, almost reddish brown color, and they're very runny/sticky/stinky. Both types are normal for a chick.

The white stuff in a chicken's poo is actually called "urates". Sort of like urine, only the bird version.

Gross, I looked at that poop link,.... but it helps. I almost freaked out the other day because my birds were dropping bright blue/teal poops for a whole day... and then i remembered that i had fed them red cabbage.
