Our weather forecast calls for 100 degrees tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that...

I've already been putting my flock in a chicken tractor parked in the deepest shade in our yard, plus I wet the grass inside down every hour, plus I put ice in the waterer and give cold treats like watermelon.

I'm thinking about adding some kind of portable fan to set up outside the tractor and pointing at one end of it, so the chickens can get out of the breeze if they choose to. I've been browsing at the home improvement stores online, but most of the fans seem to be rated only for indoor use.

Does anyone here have a recommendation for a fan that they like?

if you have a Tractor Supply ( or maybe Southern States) near you, you might have better luck finding something suitable for your use. I know TSC has the really big barn fans but that would probably blow your tractor away ;-)

You might try a cheap O2Cool battery operated fan. It could get you through the hot spell and if it croakes not a lot of money will be lost.

$10 walmart fan with steel guard. i figure if its mounted high and i cant get my pinkey more than 1/4" in the hens should be okay. if it lasts a couple months im happy. if it lasts longer all the better
