Possible Gapeworm Recovery- long story, seeking advice

I’m sorry you & your lovely duck are dealing with this 😕
I had a similar problem with a runner duck and there’s a long thread about it https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/runner-duck-cough-or-hiccups-aspergillosis.1606047/

There’s a lab I believe the name of it is mentioned in the thread you can mail a throat swab sample too and they’ll tell you if it’s aspergillosis it’s only $25. That’s what I did. I found out my duck was positive for aspergillosis
Thank you Jenbirdee.

What a great resource to have available for the swap check. I'll be saving that for the future and hoping I never need to use it. I will check out your previous thread if it is not one I have read before.

Thankfully mine isn't gasping anymore, so I have veered away from thinking she had aspergillosis.

I read through your ordeal from 2023. That sounded very stressful with the back and forth thinking Poppy was better, and then the cough returning. The videos were helpful to me; it looked different enough than what my duck was doing that I think I was on the right track with gape worm. I'm not sure why that large post never came up in my searching over and over for posts with aspergillosis. Makes me think I am missing topics.

What was the outcome for your cute Poppy and Flower? The post didn't have a conclusion. I hope she made it through and all the aspergillosis has stayed away.

Update- my Laila ate some pellet over night, and this morning I gave her more lettuce and dried mealworms. She seems to be coming back to her old self and you can tell she is feeling much better. I am so relived! I was quite stressed when typing out that long story, and maybe someday it will help someone else.

Still not much poo, and not normal poo. Fingers crossed eating some pellet will get things moving more.

One more dose of fenbendazole this morning and hopefully I can get her back outside before too long. It's too bad it's so cold again. It doesn't feel right having her adjusted to our 68 degree house to throw her out in the 20's and 30's again. Come on spring!

So good to hear that she's eating!

As for temps and getting her back outside, a 20° difference is the max you want to chance it with as far as cold temps without acclimating her back outside. I would wait until those outdoor temps are back up as you don't want her getting sick due to the differences in temps.

I'm bummed the cold has reared it's ugly head here too! But, my forecast shows it's just temporary.
