So my whole dlock except one died yesterday- the remaining hen has black on her comb and wattles and is gaping.. what could it be? The rest of the flock never showed any symptoms we thought they could have died from heat- but its looking otherwise rn

Here’s her comb and wattles

These chickens are my best friends.. I’ve already lost three.. I really don’t want to lose her too she has a good appetite and was laying great until i moved her inside, only symptoms are black on the comb and wattles and gaping

Okay, she might just be adjusting her crop often bc its nice and full but the black comb is still worrrying and i dont kno if she’s adjusting her crop or gaping-

I'm sorry for your loss.
Do you know what happened to the others?
Please tell us your general location, you mention they could have died from heat. Describe their housing or better yet, some photos of your coop/run would be helpful.

Looks like dirt or possibly dried blood on the comb and wattles.
Check her over for injuries.
Her crop is nice and full, so see if it empties. Do provide her with shade, a place to stay fairly cool if it's hot. Plenty of cool fresh water and offer feed free choice.

It’s definitely not dirt or scabs, up close it looks almost like thats what her comb is supposed To look like.

Im on the coast of NC

Their coop is probably not the biggest but they could all comfortably fit and had enough space to sit away from eachother and they get to freeroam until 7:30 PM. When they died it was 89 out and they had the enclosed part of their coop for shade
