I don't think our government is telling us just how many new people are hitting the desparate-poverty level EVERY day now. I'm not sure that I want to know.

Any of us could be hit next for any number of reasons. Our new historically-shakey economic problems and what's happening in other parts of the world and the climate change... SCAREY!

I hope that you never regret what you did for this stranger. It's probable that she is on the up and up, but there are a lot of scam artists out there who have a line that's perfected from overuse. Anne and I picked up a woman walking on the street about a month ago. She spent the night at our house, bathing, sleeping, and eating. I was even going to drive her to Tennessee or pay for her flight to North Carolina. It became evident later that she was as I described earlier. She was living the way she wanted to live, and had just left a stable home in Minnesota (again). She was like Blanche DuBois'... "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers." Okay, we knowingly let her trick us into buying her some things at Penny's (She got us there saying she needed to get her credit card situation straightened out.), and gave her some cash. We wouldn't let her talk us into giving her cash for the plane ticket, so she insisted on our dropping her off on a ramp leading to Highway 65. Finally, we gave her some cash and took her to the ramp, and she was off again to meet someone else to listen to her well-practiced lines. I'm not sorry that we helped her, but then, I'm also not sorry that she is living the carefree, vagabond, "homeless" life that she chooses to live.

Have you searched online at salvage yards for a used starter? I used to be a claims adjuster and we used salvage yards all the time for parts of all kinds when we were writing estimates.

I don't have much but I could send some cash to help you out - not much but I would be willing.

Let me know.

My husband made up a list for her to call today. It looks like we might be able to get one for about $40. She also called her storage building where all her stuff is to find out if they still had it. She was worried about them selling off her belongings - I told her she needed to call and find out one way or the other so she could stop worrying. Looks like she needs $120 to pay the rental and late fee. They told her they wouldn't get rid of her stuff right away - either way, she has a grace period to pay the money. I also had her call about the child support enforcement. She is waiting for them to call her back.

If we can get the car up and running, then she can start moving forward. We have suggested she try to find some part time work to help with money and she is wanting to do so, but with out the car....well we have to get that part fixed.

You are a very kind person for helping her out, even though you are low on funds..

I know what it is like to be homeless.. My family was homeless for a few years.. Going from one families house to the other.. It took us two years to find the place we are living in now. And we have been here 3 years..

It feels really good to help some one out.. My family is really low on funds too.. But yesterday we saw a homeless guy with a sign saying "Visions of a cheeseburger." So we went and bought him a bacon cheese burger. I had an extra rice crispy treat in the car.. And an extra pepsi.. He was so happy to recieve that..

It does feel good to help others.. I sure hope it will spread to the others who saw us give him the food. They say kindness spreads.. Lets hope so.. Lets all keep up the kindness and maybe it will spread every where.

Good luck on finding the started.. As some one else has stated.. Check with junk yards.. Also check to see if there is a place around that rebuilds them.. We have a place 30 minutes away from use that would rebuild them from $18 - $40.. Maybe if you tell them your story.. Maybe they will give you a deal on the part..

Also try yahoo freecycle for your area.. And ask for the part.. Maybe some one there could get you the part..

God bless you.

That is amazing-I would like to think I would be that generous and kind if that ever happened to me-you are very sweet and I will send big prayers your way-

The Salvation Army can be a godsend. They help a lot of people here get back on their feet.
