price for a 1-2 week old chick

is $6 asking too much? i'm looking to buy another. tsc will not sell single chicks. minimum is 6

It really depends on a few factors.. is a private breeder asking this price? Is TSC? I can get chicks from my local southern states for $18/6 chicks, all pullets. A great deal. Private breeders with non-hatchery stock I've seen ask anywhere from $3 for a barnyard mix, RIR's, etc up to $100 (yes, per chick) depending on the rarity. If you're looking for a basic brown or white egg layer expect to pay between $3-6 per chick, and then it will go up for older birds. I just paid $8 for a 17 week old red sex link.

$100 FOR A darn CHICK!!! THAT'S INSANE. yes it is a private breeder, but he can not sex them. tsc only charges $2.45. but 6 chick minimum. maybe i can get them to just sell me one. they said the reason it's 6 minimum is because they noticed last year that teens were buying just one chick at a time. so they did this to stop that. thanks

To me that is too much. I would only pay around $3.50 for a chick.

I bought 12 RIR's on march 20, directly from the hatchery (moyers chicks in quakertown, pa.) the lady told me there was probably
an extra 1 or 2 in the box, when I got home to the brooder, there were 14. They charged me $24 all chicks were vaccinated.

I see them here on my local craigslist for $3, my local Feed store sells them for $3.50

$1.00-$4.00 depending on the breed. Buying chicks means you take all the risk in raising so i usually hatch my own. I sell my BO locally for $1.00 each and my guineas and silkies for $4.00 each.

I paid $100 for a dozen Black Copper Marans, and they threw in 3 extras. But it was also some FFA students making money to buikd a lab.

I've paid 13-15$ per chick. 3 years ago I would have told someone they were nuts at that price-depends on how bad you want them Now -I dont flinch for chicks from fabulous breeders!

way too much IMO I can buy a laying hen for $6 but then again it depends on the rarity of the chick.

I wouldn't pay more than $2.50- $3 for a single chick and I would never buy just one- I think they need friends. But then again I have 132 chicks...and 55 eggs in the bator....lol
