I just discovered this with one of my hens. I believe it’s prolapse. She’s not egg bound because she lays every morning and I know that because she has very large eggs and we got one today. I know I should push it back in but she has poop stuck in there. I’ve cleaned her with soap and water but she keeps leaking and there’s poop stuck in there.

We’re new chicken keepers. We got our chickens as baby chicks last June. This is new to me. What calcium citrate? Is there a kind for chickens? Unfortunately we’re under a winter storm warning and I won’t be able to go anywhere before tomorrow afternoon.

I’m not sure of your location. Are you in the US? If so, you can find Calcium Citrate with D3 at any pharmacy and most grocery stores. It’s for humans but is commonly used for chickens. Just pull down on the wattles and pop the pill in. She’ll be able to swallow it. Keep her vent moist with Vaseline or honey. I'll add a link to a post you may find helpful.

Yup, that's the right stuff, just get a cheap generic brand, no need to but citracal or anything like that.

If you have pockets of time here and there I highly recommend going through the knowledge base here in BYC, there's so much information. I was about to slowly build up a chicken pharmacy by buying things on sale or at discount stores.
