We have a 2yr old hen who we noticed on Wednesday had a prolapsed vent. Thankfully, none of the others noticed and she was not pecked at. We have tried ebsom baths daily, followed by manually replacing, hydrocortosone creams, sugar water cool compress, vetricyn on the vent and surrounding area. She's content otherwise, eating, drinking, pooping (though now she does have gleet because of the prolapse). She has laid a few eggs since we noticed the prolapse so she's not eggbound.
When we replace the vent it will stay for a few min to a few hours. But it always comes back out. Is this ever going to heal?
The next step we were thinking was a suture back there as a last resort (wife is a vet). We don't want to cull her if we don't have to.

Well I would try to keep her from laying any more eggs if she is prolapsing. Can you keep her in a dark room and maybe cut back on her feed a little bit to try to get her to go off lay? I would supplement her with some calcium and keep her somewhere dark and quiet and see if that helps.

Definitely, since you have the option, if the prolapse doesn't stay in, put some sutures in to keep it in place. Let us know how everything is going. I hope it starts getting better for your chicken!
