Puffed up feathers, heavy breathing, staying in same spot...

yes and yes I would treat them all. there symptoms does sound like cocci. but corid will help cure them. get them on it asap
you add it to the water. if they are not drinking you might want to help them out with an eyedropper with the water mixed with medicine. I truly hope they get better soon
please keep us posted.God bless

I am dumbfounded as to how this chicken would have gotten coccidiosis. We run a cow calf operation & none of our calves have it & these chickens came directly from the hatchery to my house & have been living in my basement so they haven't been on the dirt or near any other manure. I just called our local farm store & all they have is terramycin, no corid. If I go searching there for the active ingredient in Corid what do you suggest I look at?

They were vaccinated for coccidiosis & Marek's disease at the hatchery I bought them from. They're not on medicated feed.

they can STILL get coccidosis even if they were vaccinated for it if they were exposed to a different strain of cocci that the vaccination did not cover. I believe the vaccine covers SOME strains of cocci but NOT all 9 strains. I would treat with corid which kills all 9 strains of cocci while other meds only kill some strains
you can get the corid at the feed store. best wishes and good luck
DO NOT put these birds on Corid!!!!! If you do you will be sure to get a very bad cocci infestation, possibly leading to enteritis! Giving Corid after having them vaccinated for it is the worst thing you can possibly do! If you suspect your bird have a case of coccidiosis now, and it is possible as some coccidia are resistant to the vaccine and to Corid, you will need to give them a course of Di-Methox to get rid of it. The dosage is 1/8 tsp. per gallon of water for 7 days. Withdrawel time is 5-7 days before slaughter or egg consumption.

I would say that the bird has improved some. For the first couple days it just sat in the same place all puffed up. Now it's moving around & isn't as puffed up, but it still isn't quite as active as the others & not nearly as big as they are.

Has the chick improved at all over the four days? Or is the condition the same?

How would they get a cocci infestation from taking the medicine?
