1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)

Delaware, 22-23 weeks? She feels hefty.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
not eating / drinking that I can see, won’t eat from hand, slightly interested in egg but mostly grit and eggshell. Staying by herself, not moving, slow but standing. Won’t rush to me like normal, not scratching. She will not protest much when picked up. Will run a little bit to get away.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?

Less than 12 hours as of posting

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?

No

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

no idea

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

yogurt in the AM around 10ish. Wasn’t interested in mash around 3-4 .. don’t think she ate at all after that aside from grit and a little scrambled egg with eggshell

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

Image included

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

administered some nutridrench (not much.. a couple drops) She has what seems to be water and maybe grit in her crop?

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

Going to make an emergency appt at the vet assuming she makes it. I’m on edge because I had one die suddenly from FLHS

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

Photos included

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Wooden coop with pine flake.
Run is dirt with some straw.

This morning she was fine, had yogurt with the others, scratching around, she didn’t want much mash, didn’t think anything about it. She had a slow emptying crop
For a few days but it seemed to clear up. She laid an egg this morning I think.. Had normal
Poop overnight the night before.

Came out before bed and she is sitting in the back corner of the run staring into space. Doesn’t want food or water, isn’t going into the coop for the but with the others… she has hardly any poop like She hasn’t eaten at all… she’s going in the coop last which is unlike her .. do I separate?? I have no idea what’s happening. She seems to only be interested in grit — fed scrambled egg with eggshell and she ate a little bit was mostly interested in the eggshell.

I did find two screws that weren’t ours in the water and in the run today… please, any help or insight appreciated

I feel like I want to rehome them all because I have been having one bad thing after another with them.

Included some photos of her and her poo.. poo photo is blurry because it’s so small.
She usually has big honkin’ poops.

Please separate her. Dog crate with food and water somewhere warm and quiet. Make sure she isn't being picked on by other flock mates.

My flock has been hit hard with coccidosis this year as well as general illnesses. Do you have Corid and antibiotics? When my vet did an check on my lethargic girl that was his recommendation.

She is not as bullied as my other girl who is doing fine.

We recently had a flock fecal done and nothing but an overgrowth of bacteria was found that our vet said could be treated with a little yogurt a couple times a week… I have corid but no antibiotics.

I'd recommend a broad spectrum antibiotic. Especially since your vet saw an overgrowth of bacteria. It might be a bacterial infection that took over.

She did lay an egg today?

Check to make sure her crop is emptying overnight.

What was the bacteria? This was found in the poop during a fecal float? Do you have the report?

She's young and probably has just come into lay. I would give her Extra Calcium asap, then once daily for a week.

Give Calcium Citrate+D3. You can find this at Walmart, CVS, etc. Take 1 tablet, pull down on her wattles, pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow. Yes. She can swallow that large tablet whole.

Yes. I do see that you have been giving grit and eggshell. Give her the Calcium.

She's interested mainly in grit(Granite Grit)? Then her crop may still be slow. If the crop is not emptying overnight, then address that symptom as Sour Crop since you mentioned it was slow and you thought it was resolved, revisit the crop. If it's still slow, then get some Miconazole or Clotrimazole and begin treating according to the article linked below.

Get photos of her overnight poop.

I’m pretty certain she laid today.

The vet didn’t specify what bacteria - she said it wasn’t something dire at the moment the required abx and to give yogurt a couple days a week to bring it back into balance. I suppose that could have changed and I’m not sure any of her poo got into the flock sample.

no parasites.

Yes granite grit .. and she picked the eggshells out of the scrambled egg I made.

If it’s crop issue would I still do the calcium?

Just looking at the camera in the coop there isn’t a pile under her like there usually is to take a photo of. She just hasn’t eaten anything it seems .. just the small amount of egg I gave her before bed. I’m hoping I can secure an emergency vet appointment for her today if she doesn’t randomly make a turnaround when the coop doors open this morning… but I’m also looking for ways to keep her energy up and some food in her belly.. I think if I lose another one I’m going to rehome… I have lost so much sleep since our first bird died I’m getting sick myself… the problem
Being is that these birds were ones me and my 5 year ild
Daughter raised as chickens are her favorite animal…. Uuugh why does it seem everyone else has it so easy comparatively

This was under her on the roost this morning… is this just a soft shelled egg with a twisty tail or should I be concerned about something like lash or what is it - salpingitis??

It looks like a collapsed thin-shelled egg, but I can’t see if it had a tail or not. Did she eat the contents? I would continue the calcium. Is anything coming from her vent? I prefer to keep my separated chicken inside the coop or run with the others. Are they on an antibiotic to treat the bacteria in the fecal float? Xrays can point out metal that has been swallowed, although they are expensive.

It does have a tail. She was still on the roost over it and hadn’t come down, I removed it. The yolk was all over the bedding. I’ll check her vent.

Alrighty then, she came out and started eating some things, much perkier right now than last night.

The vet said they weren’t at the point of needing an antibiotic but I will ask her to reevaluate.

Edit: vent clear
