pyncheon thread

I believe mine have yellow legs but I would have to look again. A lot of mine have turned out almost mottled, especially the hens. I have been playing with trying to breed them into something that at least resembles the right color and do have two chicks growing out who at least look promising.

i would love to start working with some of my birds...but i just never have time but to enjoy them... school is a real buzz kill... lol...

To Becky.........I bet the legs are white....not yellow..... I haven't seen too many pure Pyncheons with yellow or willow legs out there. Check the soles of the feet on your birds....if they are true yellow and not creamy pink....then you do have yellow legs....yellow is better than white and a step in the right direction.

They started out promising but I knew something was wrong when they all hatched with different colored down.

Then they grow up and turn into this

The babies from mating these this year have been interesting. One hen that looks mottled like their mothers. One with no crest but no flopping comb either. And then 4 chicks, all with crests that are still growing out. Like I said, two look promising.
I will have to check out the legs again tomorrow, they may be the pinkish color. I am not sure.

Thanks for posting the photos.....all of the birds that I can see in your photos have white legs.....white legs crossed to white legs will produce white legs.... Willow comes from birds that have the yellow and the blue leg color in their genetic background. again.....watch the excessive white in the plumage.....the extra black (mottled) doesn't help either. Any Pyncheon with the wrong color of legs would be DQ'd at a show....maybe not a Fair.....and like any other breed.....wrong leg color is noticeable and quickly placed at the end of the line. The type on your birds is not too bad....just watch the lopped combs and birds with no tassels.....tassel-less birds tells me that some other breed had been introduced to that line and it's popping up again.

I always thought there was some other breed mixed in with these. I only started with 4 roosters and 2 hens so will just be picking the best of what I get to breed until I can find someone selling pyncheon eggs or birds that are better. Oh, I won't be showing, lol. I mean to just keep playing with them and see if I can at least get the mille fleur color back.

Sounds like a neat project.....I'm sure the correct Mille Fleur color is just around the corner for you......but just so you know......the correct leg color will never happen with any of the birds that I see in the photos.....if leg color doesn't matter.....no problem. If you do sell to other breeders though.....PLEASE let them know of the leg color difference. Thanks......this will only help the breed in the future. I would love to hear how you are doing with your Pyncheon journey.....Good luck!

Yes, I understand that I can't get the leg color back with these. I do hope to eventually find someone selling some that do have the right color..everything, lol. I am sure it is only just a matter of time. They are such an unusual breed that they are sure to become more popular. For now I will just play with these.

Becky, the little hen in the last picture may not be perfect(color wise), but she is as cute as a bug!
