Hi everyone,

I noticed some lice eggs on my hen today and had a minor (ok major) freak out.

This is the first time I've noticed this on a hen before. I called my local feed store and they recommended a spray that is made up of Pyrethrins and Piperonyl butoxide. I cleaned out the coop and did a spray down with this product and then dusted the floor of the coop and the perches and nesting boxes with DE.
I tried to spray the chickens but I have an intense rooster and only got them with one or two quick sprays. Is this enough or do I need to catch each one and give them a good spray?

I also am not sure if there is an egg withholding period for this product. It's not written on the can and I cannot find the info out by searching online. Does anyone know?

Thank you!
Ashley

Hi there, sorry no one replied. Here in the US there is a zero day egg and meat withdrawal when using permethrin, or any product labeled for use on poultry. Since the can you have says "for use on poultry" and it does not mention a withdrawal period, I think you can assume there is no withdrawal period.

Thank you for the reply!
Do you know if this product will kill the eggs as well? Today is one week since we sprayed them so I'm going to check and see how they are doing.
I did check one bird a few days ago and didn't see any mites but the eggs were still attached.

Thanks!

Topical Permethrin/pyrethrin sprays/powders are not absorbed systemically when used according to the label, so that’s why there is no withdrawal time on it. Safe to use on lactating dairy cattle too with no withdrawal times! :) if it does not mention a withdrawal time or say not to use it on laying hens, you’re good to go. 👍

You assume people read the label and product insert?
