Pyxis' Emu Chat Thread

She was exiled to the garage last night, to a brooder with two foot tall walls instead of 18 inch walls.

Which she then jumped out of. That's impressive because unless she stretches up, the brooder is taller than she is.

Definitely gonna be needing to do tall fences to keep this one in.
:hmm 6 feet won't be tall enough? What are you going to need? Elephant fencing? lol

Six feet better be enough, lol! I really don't want to go higher than that. When she weighs more I'm pretty sure she won't be able to jump her own height. Well, fingers crossed she won't be able to. Otherwise I'll have to cover that darn pen with aviary netting.

Why don't you keep her with your male? He would keep her busy so maybe her escapes would end.

Because he and the goose go after her, or I would. I actually posted about that a couple pages back - the goose especially does not accept her at this time.

I was just wondering how you are going to handle the integrations of the emus and the goose.

I'm going to put them out in their enclosure with a four foot fence separating them - they'll be able to look at each other and get used to each other, but won't be able to get at each other. And then I'll wait until Ciara has outgrown the goose and let them all together.

What they do at zoos and especially the Wild animal park is design an over hang that leans toward the critter side of the fence... in order to get a good sight line for jumping they are too far away .... Doesnt even have to be much maybe eighteen inches or so.

Emu fence doesnt have to be so tall but you get the idea.

And for what its worth once they mature I suspect they will be too heavy for high jumpinge episodes...

Just my thoughts

Wow, I was able to put my little ones with the older ones right away with no aggression. I think your boy is learning some bad behavior from the goose. I would try separating the goose from him and introduce the Emus maybe? Then let the goose live on the other side of the fence in site range until she is bigger than him.
