I took on some baby button quail from a friend abour a week ago and there's been a few leg issues but most have been corrected aside from two. This is the one that has me confused.
It will not use its leg, not splayed, not slipped tendon, no curled toes, just wouldn't use the leg. The entire leg below the joint has been discoloured since I got it.
The chick itself seems to be thriving, gets around fine, eats, drinks, etc. And I do feel like the last couple days it has been trying to use the leg more, it's still discoloured though, the joint or just above it does seem somewhat swollen.
It is possible it had a break of some kind? Or is there something else it may be? I didn't hatch it or have it for the first few days so I really can't speak to what may have happened.
These were pics from a couple days ago.

It doesn't look broken, but there might be a fracture in there. It does look injured, though. If the chick seems to be in good health and seems to be improving, I would leave it alone to heal.

When my cockatiel broke her leg she couldn’t use it at all. It just dangled there. The vet put a cast on her leg and after a couple weeks you’d never even know. It could be as simple as using a piece of paper clip and vet wrap to keep the leg straight while it heals.

It's getting super quick at getting around. Hard to catch now. Still an odd colour, you can tell where in the upper leg the discoloration stops.
