Quail food

Here in Utah we have a store called IFA and I can get a gamebird starter mash that is 28% protein. Google feed store to see what is in your area. It will come down to what is available. Amazon sells high protein gamebird food but its expensive.

I'm having a hard time finding any food to feed quail in my area. I have a Big R, Tractor Supply and a Farm N Fleet close by me to purchase feed from. Knowing I'm sure each area stocks differently though but can anyone recommend me to a feed they might carry at one of these? I've went and asked but no one can point me to a specific one since I assume no one raised Quails around me as they look at have looked at me strange and have no clue what or why I am asking for Quail feed. Well in the end I would rather feed them food I grow....do meal worms give them a balanced diet? I've seen that they like these but I hate to make them sick by only feeding them these. Any help I appreciate. I do not have them yet so I currently not feeding anything of course lol...I want to make sure they have food before I get them

Tractor supply should carry a Dumor 24% protein chick starter, it's for turkey and game birds and should be fine for quail for their whole life spans ( http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/dumorreg;-chick-starter-24%-50-lb ). If they don't stock it I would give them at least a month to order it in when you have your timeline for getting the birds. Depending on what scale of quail raising you plan on going into they may see it as worthwhile to stock it permanantly if you're going to be needing to get it on a regular basis. If you're just starting with a few I would play it by ear and order when you have a few weeks supply left, depending on how long that first order takes to come in and leaving a bit of buffer.

Good luck!
Jessie

Thank you...I just checked the website and they are out of stock..I've never seen that one in there but at least I have something to go off of and can find a similar one even if at another store or ask them to order some like you mentioned.

I hatched some Texas A & M quail in Feb. I had to buy Dunmore 20% chick starter was all TSC carries except purenia and you do not want to feed medicated starter to quail, ducks,or guenies as it will kill them.
My little darling A&M's are laying eggs right now. I have recently fund some 26% feed and am useing that as of last week. Found it in a town 10 miles from

Oops! Didn't get finished. As I was going to say the brands I have used to start was Dunmore,Nutrena, and currently using Prime Quality.
good luck with your new babies.

How did you like the Nutrena? And how much protein was the Nutrena feed you used? I've looked at them for rabbit feed but hadn't thought to check if they make anything suitable for quail.
Cheers,
Jessie

Was ok. If I remember right it had 28%. Used it for my peacocks. And prime quality has 26%.didn't have any quail at the time I used it; Nutrena that is.
just do not use medicated feed.
