Quail in Wyoming

Also as a secondary question for anybody in general, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might possibly find a quail breeder in Wyoming so I could just completely ignore the out of state hassel?

Having dealt with the G&F before, my suggestion is to contact your local Game Warden. The G&F have a list of everyone in the State of Wyoming who legally have quail. They can put you in touch with someone who already has quail and would be willing to sell to you.

I don't see why a permit is needed court nix quail aren't wild animals they have been bread for domestic use they aren't even native to us from my understanding

This is the law in the State of Wyoming.

See here for a list of animals and whether they are allowed to be possessed and whether or not a permit is required. They list quail and do not break them down into different varieties so all varieties of quail are legal to be possessed in the State of Wyoming and they all require a permit from the G&F Dept.

I would like to raise some Quail in Wyoming also, did anyone find a place to purchase some within the state?

Contact your local game warden or local G&F office. They can get you started on your permit and the inspection of your premises where you plan to keep the quail. You have to have the permit before you can get the quail. They have a list of everyone that has quail legally and can put you in touch with someone willing to sell you some quail.

I am a bran new member (Hi ya'll) and I have joined this forum completely for the purpos of figuring out how to get quail in wyoming. I am currently in the process of applying for a permit from the Fish and Game in order to keep them. I wasn't going to worry about finding someone I am going to buy birds from until after I got the permit, but the permit asks for the name and address of my supplier. Here's the problem.

"A certificate of veterinary inspection completed by an accredited veterinarian from the state of origin within ten (10) days prior to importation of game birds and/ or game bird eggs into the State shall be required. In addition, a statement signed by the supplier of the game birds shall be submitted to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Attention: Permitting Officer, 3030 Energy Lane, Casper, Wyoming 82604 on a form prescribed by the Department attesting that the game birds and/ or game bird eggs and premises of origin are free of infectious, contagious and communicable diseases. Diseases include, but shall not be limited to, Newcastle disease, Salmonella, pullorum, avian cholera, duck viral enteritis, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and avian influenza. The statement shall also indicate that no game bird within the flock of origin is known to be infected with or to be exposed to avian tuberculosis. Game birds and premises of origin shall have been free of said diseases for at least one (1) year immediately preceding the date of shipment into the State and the premises shall not have experienced an undiagnosed mortality of more than ten percent (10%) of the game birds during the same one (1) year period."

So to list a supplier I need to find someone to buy from that is either already in wyoming, or can provide a certificate of health. This is a bit of a bummer because origonally I had planned to just buy the eggs off ebay. How do I go about finding a supplier than can ship into my state legally? How much is this going to cost me above and beyond the normal starting up price?
Did you get your permit? I applied 3 weeks ago and didn’t hear anything back.

You can do simple Google search, or i myself have found some nice people on craigslist in the "farm and garden" section, you'd be surprised how many you'll find, I'm in a suburb of Philadelphia and there were several, I'm sure in your area there will be plenty more! I'm not sure if this forum has a "trading section" or and area that does swaps etc. but that may be worth looking into as well. It literally took me a day to find, make a visit to check things out and to return home with a dozen beautiful birds!! Best wishes!!

In Wyoming because a G&F permit is required to have quail, craigslist is not the answer to finding quail here. The advice you are giving does not apply to Wyoming.

Once the person receives a G&F permit it is possible to get assistance from the G&F finding someone that legally has quail here because they have a list of all the people that legally have quail.

I got a permit to have pheasants here in Wyoming years ago. The local game warden was very nice and helpful.
