We are building a half-hoop coop and plan to cover the cattle panel with chicken wire. Somewhere on this forum, I read the name of a better type of wire...red...something. What is the brand name, where can I find it? We will be using a smaller mesh around the bottom...how high up should I go...2', 3', or 4'. We don't have any burrowing predators...just chicken snakes. We will also be covering the whole structure with tarp. Any idea on the best type and where to find it?

Hardware cloth don't use chicken wire most anything can go right through it. My hardware cloth is 1/2 inch mesh. Small hole welded wire is another option. If you have raccoons in your area they also dig.

You may be thinking of Red Brand?

I replaced the chicken wire on my daughter's hoop coop with 1" x 2" welded wire. No large predator is getting past that. Smaller ones, including many snakes could.

My next smaller choice would be 1/2" x 1" 16 gauge welded wire. It is the heaviest, strongest small wire option I've found to date.
