Question About Building vs. Buying a Chicken Run

Care to share with us initial plans or sketches of your design? Including how it will attach or enclose your coop. You might get some helpful suggestions.

For the run I used an old dog kennel and then bought a couple additional panels to get it the length I wanted. If you check FB Marketplace, you can probably find a bunch of those 6x12 panels and even some with gates in them for very little. I have an electric line (about 3 inches off the ground and 3-4 inches away from the fence) running around the entirety of the run and bottom of the coop to keep critters away. In Kansas and we deal with possums, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, dogs, and even have some big cats roaming around these days. I've not had an issue yet. The coop is solid, it is a custom built shed from a very reputable dealer here in South Central KS. It sits on skids and has a wood floor, so unless something gets into the run, the gang is safe. We added a net top to the run, but will be building a permanent metal roof over the whole thing.

Do you like to do DIY? For me, I do....although it takes me forever to get stuff done, cause I'm slow but dang it, I love building chicken coops and runs. I would DIY because you can customize that dude to however you want and work around hills, slopes, etc. Plus, IDK if anyone said it or not but those premade china jobs off of Amazon aren't solid, most are junk that a decent wind or branch will take out.

If money is an issue- which sounds like it's not, get yourself used pallets or used wood...(guess the term is re-something now ?) but I love using old wood, used wood. For me it gives things more character. But I digress, I think only you, can answer your question. The Chicken Force will guide you.
