Question: If your hubby says....

Actually this black turken has already been named Ivy in honor of speckledhen's beloved Ivy, who has had her share of chicken troubles.
I did order my DH his own chick (over his protests of course), a blue silkie. Blue is DH's favorite color. He holds this one too. I've asked him a couple times to name his chick, but so far he's only calling him Bluey. This won't work, I already have a Bluey in my adult flock.

Jeeper1540 Turkens are only ugly until you actually hold a baby one in your hands! OMG! Cuteness overload. The black one is brave little booger. Two days old and three of these chicks are already running up to my hand when I put it in the brooder.

My wife keeps telling me "Chickens aren't pets!"

So I am going to get her her very own chick. I want to find someone local, but something different too.

Normally I'd say get her a silkie, but these turkens (naked necks) are so dang cute.

I have to update my husband's supposed "unattachment" to our chickens. We started building the coop this weekend. He was quite upset that I had gone out and gotten the materials without him. We worked on it for hours on Saturday and it is shaping up quite nicely. He loves to do wood work and is making sure that the chicks have one sturdy house. He keeps calling me "crazy" LOL and yet he keeps saying that "his" chickens have to have a nice home.

It means that I have a chance.

I think they are adorable, and my husband thinks they are the ugliest thing -second only to a show girl, so a silkie must be third.

OMG! These turkens are so sweet. Five days old and they come running to my hand every time I go out to the brooder. True, they are just hoping that I have another grasshopper for them, but still....
One of the turkens, the black one named Ivy, just sits and watches me as I watch them.

My husband is totally against my chickens but he loves me so ... He built me a nice chicken run, a couple of nest boxes, a watering station, ran cloth along the chicken run so the biddy chicks won't get out.....building me another coop......tells everyone how great the fresh eggs are....built a feeding and oyster shell station..... It took him a while but I think he has turned to the chicken side.... yours will too. let him protest and don't say a word. Mine also insists he does not like the cats or my dogs but when a cat is lost he will get up in the night and bring him home or I catch him loving on the dogs when he thinks no one is looking AND all my animals - except the Rooster ADORE him.

My husband reluctantly allowed me to get chicks. A little less than a week ago, we bought a hen house with a very nice shaded run. When we bought it, he turned to me and ask, "will this size be big enough?". I had sincerely replied that it was more than roomy enough. Last night, we were showing our neighbors the chicks and before I knew it, he was measuring the height of the run then overheard him telling our neighbor, "I think I'm going to enlarge the run and add electric and water". This from the man who said, "If we get chickens, they are yours. I'm having nothing to do with them except eat them and their eggs".

Sounds like the Englishman. He complains about them when he's having to spray down the back patio and deck to get rid of the poo (our girls free-range the yard all day) and he claims he's only "Allowing" them for the eggs as we try to be somewhat sustainable, but I catch him sneaking out early in the morning to feed them their scratch. When I told him that I wanted a house chicken (Nosey- she was also a Polish Bantie called "Billie") he had a fit, but ultimately relented. Last week my bad dog Lola killed Billie when she snuck out in the yard after I let B out to range with the big girls. He was devastated and actually suggested I get rid of the dog (5-year-old would be quite upset). His first question was "You're gonna get another Billie...RIGHT?" Since then, he's been letting 2 of our younger chickens come inside and watch TV with us at night and even sleep in Billie's house. I'm sure when the new chicks I ordered arrive this week, he'll soon have his vote pitched for who is going to live inside. BTW...one of them is a Turken. I can't wait
