Question of the Day - Saturday, February 22nd, 2025

Working one day I heard the unmistakable engine of A P-51 and stopped to watch fly over till out of sight. living on a farm A-10s would fly so low on their way to the range I could wave to the pilots and they would tip their wings. Where we live now we have C-130 Hercules Similar to the C-130 Clong Birds of South East Asia, nostalgic reflection. McGuire AFB about 25 miles away.

I don't even realize when planes fly over head. I grew up close to Cleveland Hopkins Airport so airplanes were a constant thing. And when I was 7, we moved to the country and never heard planes. Trains though, we hear all the time. Our tracks are very active, over 20 trains a day

I love airplane noise! I grew up on a Marine base and I've always loved planes. I can still tell you what most military traffic is from the sound of the engines and I will drop everything and grab the camera if I hear certain aircraft. Like:

My son's best friend is the same. He's a huge plane nerd and can tell you what is flying just by hearing it. One day, we were driving on the highway and there was a plane wing being driven somewhere. This dude knew exactly what plane it was from and when I looked it up, he was right. No surprise that he is gonna be an Air Force pilot when he graduates highschool

Would you mind sharing where this is? I’d love to see the old planes actually in flight.
It was at Mesa Gateway airport many years ago. The B-29 is called "Fifi" and is one of only 2 remaining flying. Fifi is based out of Dallas.

The P-51 Is Currently at Palm Springs Airfield and is part of the California CAF wing there AFAIK.

The B-17 is called "Sentimental Journey, and she's local. CAF AZ chapter, Falcon Field, Mesa AZ. She flies over a lot. They do rides. I keep asking for one as a birthday present, but tix are spendy.

Find a local airshow, or a CAF wing or historical aviation group near you.
