Question on electric fencing setup / ground rod?

I read to NOT use copper. What I read said to use the same metal for the grounding rod as for the wire. Mine are aluminum.

That is correct - if you use different metals you will get something called Galvanic corrosion.

Most of the electric fence wire is galvanized steel now. Thus, the galvanized rod is the better option. If you were using copper wire, use copper rod, aluminum wire, aluminum rod.

Use of different materials will increase chance of galvanic corrosion or electrolysis. If you use aluminum rods with steel wire, aluminum, being the softer material, will be the ion donor and will corrode while the steel wire will be the receiver. However, in an open aire environment, corrosion will be minimum. If the wire and steel are connected underground in a moist environment, corrosion will occur at a faster rate with the aluminum disintegrating over time.
