Question to those with front load washing machines....

How do you get the smell out? Before I bought my washer I read to leave the door open when not in use or that it would "smell" because it would grow mildew and mold. I've cleaned out the inside lip of plastic. However, it really chaps my khakies that I open up my washer breathing in the nice fresh wonderful smell of clean cloths and instead, it stinks like musty, mildewy, pooie, yucky, can't believe I just washed my cloths in there, smell. Anyone have a good home remedy? I have a feeling I'm going to hear something about vinegar, but surprise me! Thanks Y'all!

I've never had that problem with mine. What kind of detergent are you using? Are you sure it is emptying all the way when it spins? And, have you checked to see if there is something in the little catch where the water escapes. You have to take the front panel off to find it.

I think a good soak with bleach or vinegar water will do the trick if you find no problems.

Yep, that's where I noticed it the first time so I keep that clean. But didn't know if there were any other secret spots. I'm going to go disect the front of it to see if I can find any other hidden spots. It runs just fine, just can't figure out why it smells.

I would clean it out with vinegar for every five washes in super HOT water or santinized button with NO clothes in it. After it is done, I leave the door open to dry.

It is a very common problem with front load washers and it just takes an extra step for us to maintain it.

I don't have a front-loader, but my brother does. He and his wife spent lots of $$$ on theirs and it stinks to high heaven

They have had a plumber come out and make sure its not the drain backed up, it wasn't. They have ran several loads of bleach through it and use ONLY HE detergent, still smells, just not as bad. Now, they're going to call someone out and see if there is a way to clean it and remove the smell. Sorry I have no hints

I detest mine for that and a couple other reasons. As soon as the first thing goes on it.....out the door it goes. I will not pay to have anything repaired on it. I live for the day when I can buy a top loader again. How stupid is it that we have to "wash" our washers on a regular basis? And wipe out the rubber gasket every day? By adding vinegar in the fabric softener slot each time, you might find it helps. I buy special tablets and run it on a hot cycle about once every 2 weeks to clean the darn thing.
I hate how you can't let it fill, then lift the lid and let things soak for a while before washing.
I hate how you can't run in and quickly lift the lid and throw in the dishcloth that you forgot this morning.
I hate how you have to leave the door open all the time when not in use to avoid the smell . (looks messy in my mind)
There's my rant for the day. Bloody thing will probably last forever.........

it might be the despenser tub...
have you washed with no clothes in hot water?


Do you use the special detergent ment for it?

I've heard of people having this problem but I've had mine for almost 4 years now and it has never had a smell to it and I never leave the door open!! A friend gave his away because of it!!

Not sure what to suggest to help you out!!
