So can you breed splash to splash to get a splash ...

I know breeding blues you get splashes ...

how do you get dark blues?

a friend of mine wants to start a breeding program for blues

Splash+splash= a whole lot of splash!

Breed the blues to a black to get the good blue color. Not sure what you mean by "dark blue", though.

splash X Splash = 100% splash chicks. The problem with this breeding is that you can get washed out Splashes. There are splashes that look more like a dirty white with a blueish head. Not what you want.

Blue X Splash gets you 50 % splash.

Blue X Blue and you can get 25 % Splash.

There are no other ways to get splash. If you want to keep breeding splash then you really need to breed a blue in from time to time. The last 2 breedings are the best.

On the other side, if you breed blues you need to breed in black once in a while. Constant blue to blue breedings will end up with a dull blue. The black helps add in the fine lacing on the blue feathers and keeps the color bright.

It will also be easier to get dark blues from either dark blue parents or a blue x black mating. With that can get the full aray of blue from light to dark.

could someone post me a picture of what I am looking for as far as a nice body type for the standard cochins, and does it vary with the colors, is there a size difference?

like with breeding great danes the blues tend to be smaller than the fawns ans harls, the body type is also a bit different.

These are not in the best condition feather wise. But you can see a consistency in the size and shape.

They are just standard cochins. They are big birds in the poultry world, but the term "giant" is just being used as a sales gimic. Just another way to squeeze a little more $$$ of you.
