Questions ???? Roof trusses on new 8x8 coop

Thanks bad_coffee, that's exactly what I needed, measurements to go by!!! These dang triangles get me every time!!! I did one with a 6/12 pitch and 2' rise and came up with 4' 6.5" board length to the wall and then transfer my 6/12 there for the birds-mouth. I hope I get it right as this would waste a 2/4 if I don't.

Their are several different types of metal brackets to hold roof trusses and or rafters in place. There is only one type that allows you to eliminate the horizontal truss and not perform the cut out of the rafter ( http://www.homedepot.com/Building-M...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 ); make sure you have that one if not doing the cut out that places the roof load actually on the top of the wall.

The others are merely designed to enable positioning of the rafters, provide additional strength against wind and enable easy nailing. They will not necessarily hold the rafters in place when roof loads become great. The roof needs to be solidly on the roof plate for that.

Of course, a 4' horizontal distance is not great and you can often "cheat" some and be ok. Just something I thought I'd toss out there for future reference.
