Quotes and Thoughts for the Day

Anyone here from Minnesota or Iowa? I am just curious from someone living in those states how is the issue of Avaian Flu being portrayed in the media?

Sorry guys, I don't want to jump in an just stir things up. However, I just read an article that stated Iowa called a state of emergency, yesterday due to the AI outbreak. They are preparing for dealing with 16.5 MILLION carcasses. Minnesota has been in a state of emergency for awhile. This is scary stuff, they are now thinking it might possibly be transmitted through the air. The prices of eggs and chicken will increase and our whole food system could be affected. We have got to wake up as a nation and realize we cannot continue to farm and produce our food in these large mono cropping style operations.

Ok I am trying to step down off my soap box but someone stole my ladder!

It's an ugly scenario Tricia. They don't want people to panic, but at the same time no one seems to know exactly what we're dealing with. It just keeps spreading like wildfire. We are doing our best to avoid contact with any other flocks outside of home and even that may not guarantee their safety if they think its coming from migratory birds. We have tons of geese and ducks in our backyard where its flooded.

Hello Shannon and Sarah!
I hope you both are having a fine morning.

I also read in Minnesota that they are beginning to wonder if it is air bourne after a turkey farm that was on lock down became infected. They are wondering if it travels via dirt particles and wind. If that is the case then all bets are off as far as all of the commercial poultry becoming tainted. I am not going to buy any super market chickens. It is scary stuff, we need to wake up as a nation before it is too late.

I do agree. We don't buy most meat at the store. I'd say none at all, but I'm guilty of buying bacon...I need to invest in a pig.
