Raccoons are EVIL.

I hate raccoons the look like robbers and are mass serial killers, no one is aloud to say their cute in this thread ok. Recently I have had raccoon attacks one after another and there my favorite most nice hens too, I'm always thinking why couldn't you have gotten her instead of my favorites.

The first attacks, I was just introducing my chicks to the flock at the time and raccoons grabbed them through the wire on the end of the coop that is used to scrape poop out, in all I lost three chicks that night then I put them in a pet carrier they haven't been attacked since.

Round two, I had a broody hen that was sitting in the bottom nest boxes on the far right, she was one of my favorites. A raccoon pryed her nest open and dragged her out and ate her too. I've fixed that problem since then. Keep in mind I haven't ever had any predators getting chickens inside of the coop before.

Round three, was completely my fault I went out to put up the chickens last night and I remember putting the chicks in their carrier but some how forgot to shut their small door and a raccoon came and got my favorite hen I am lucky I didn't lose more as I hear raccoons usually kill all of them, I know their raccoons because I set traps on round three and I've caught an adult raccoon and I think her baby child thing i don't know what a raccoon is called.

Sorry about your losses. Whenever I see a raccoon I shoot it, whether its near the coop or not. Felt bad at first but just kept telling myself they could kill my chickens. Their population is getting out of control anyway, since people around here have quit hunting them since their pelts are no longer worth anything.

I killed about nine raccoons last year too, along with like 12 possums. I didn't realize here were so many animals.

Oh no, no, no, no. You mustn't say such things because there are dozens of gentle raccoon lovers on this forum who love nothing better than to spoon feed their chicks piecemeal to a colony of raccoons. So what I think you are saying is that pathos/logos/ethos are the usual rhetorical tricks or devices used by the few
to browbeat the "common" population into this uncommon way of thinking.

The first spring I lived here (4 years ago, and I did not have chickens yet), I killed 13 in 2 months! They were coming up on the back deck and wreaking havoc on my bird feeders and digging up my potted flowers and herbs. Found out from the neighbor the idiot that lived here before was feeding them off the back deck!!

That said, look more into ways of keeping the raccoons away from the coops and pens themselves. I have traps going most of the time yet the approach is leaky. I know raccoons patrol perimeter of my repel zone (hotwire fence and dogs) because dogs get into them and neighbors dogs bark as the critters approach. I keep changing up defenses and make so birds, including broodies with chicks, are harder to get buying more time for making adjustments to keep the buggers out or kill them.

I agree with you @Top Rooster, though my flock has never been attacked by anything but a hawk (and that was only once) in the two years I've had chickens, but I dislike any predators.

I am with you, all raccoons should be turned into good raccoons.....with little pieces of lead in their bodies.
