I needed some advice on how to go about raising chicks with goslings. Plan on 5 buff orphingtons to start. Wait about 4wks before adding 2 buff goslings. Wanted to make sure geese weren't hogging warmer and chicks wouldn't be trampled. Was also worried about feed as the goslings need crumbles. Can they eat same food or should I keep it separated? Thanks!

Goslings are very messy and grow very quickly. I would not brood them together. Goslings need a ration formulated for waterfowl. I use Purina flock raiser. Goslings also need grass. I start out small and they quickly get more and more. Goslings also need extra heat for a shorter amount of time. They have a thick downy coat. Both species have different brooding needs, so they are best raised separately.

How late in spring or summer can you raise goslings before winter? I am in upstate sc. Our winters rarely see snow anymore but temps can drop to single digits sometimes. I am thinking if I brood my chicks early spring then in 6-8 was brood my goslings. Temps begin cooling off at night in 60s late Oct. May have a light freeze in Nov.

Here in Wisconsin the geese breeding season runs from around March to sometime in June. They are very cold hardy, and are always full grown by winter. The 4 I got in the beginning of June are now as big as the adults.
