Screw a strip of wood over the blank spaces to give better traction and perfect...

I would remove the green, it probably lessens traction.
Another wood strip in the middle of where we the green lays should work.

I used half inch hardware cloth raised a bit for traction. Works well. I was worried about stuck toes, but they are alright.
