Recommended Resources to Purchase Chicken Hens?

Hi all,

We are in the market to purchase a few additional chickens to add to our small flock. We are not looking for layers that produce lots of eggs as it's just 3 of us, and we don't eat eggs all that often.

We reside in Virginia, and enjoy the interaction with our chickens. I'd really like some good looking exotic chickens preferably. We aren't against mail ordering either from a reputable breeder.

I'd try Meyer hatchery or cackle hatchery, they're both good hatcheries

Have you looked into local breeders? Looks like there's a good amount in VA but I didn't check any of their websites for breeds/quality/reviews.

I too am located in Virginia and am seeking a reputable breeder/hatchery. I would prefer to not purchase online but it seems that I have no alternative as I've not found anyone in VA. I may not be "in the know" and hope that you have found other local resources. Any progress?
