My dad purchased a Red Golden pheasant a year ago and we have tried repeatedly to get him to eat actual feed. We’ve tried 16% protein mini pellets and crumble, 24% gamebird crumble, scraps, and 6 way scratch. The only thing I have gotten him to eat is scratch. He’ll go for the sunflower seeds and peas in it along with the wheat and occasionally oats. Won’t touch the milo. I’ve tried mixing the feed with the scratch, I’ve tried wetting the feed. I’ve tried fermenting the feed. I have tried the tough love approach and only giving him feed but after about a week I give in. He looks and acts healthy. I figure if he was starving I’d have seen some signs by now. I’m new to pheasants and I want to make sure my dad gets to enjoy him for as long as possible. Any help would be appreciated!
