Hi,
I've had an ill chick which I've kept separate (with its mum) for over a month. The vet said (over the phone) I can now let it back out with the others and stop giving it the antibiotics. Its been a couple of days and it seems fine off the medicine, but its still got a sneeze. The mother never got infected, but the other chicks all died so im worried to release them back into the flock. Will they be OK?

If your chick is still showing signs of illness, then I would still continue to hold off on reintroducing them. It'll be more risky to put it back in than to hold off for another week until the sneeze is gone.

A lot depends on the age of the chick. If it has been out of the flock for awhile, the others may attack it. Was this chick in the flock before? Respiratory diseases are carried by recovered chickens. If she was part of the flock before, then it should not be a problem. I would put her in a dog crate with food and water and very slowly reintroduce her.

The chick has been separate with its mums (it has two) and they're fine. The chick is now about 6 weeks old and it was with the rest of the flock beforehand. I have some older chicks of around 10 weeks that I'm most worried about but they were with the chick whilst it was ill at the start.
The chickens are free range so I doubt the chick with have any bullying issues (especially with its mums).
