Hello
I have 4 ducks, two black runners (which have white feathers now), and two pekings. The ducks are approximately 4 years old and all female. These were mostly my husband's ducks. He built a little coop and cared for them and the two chickens. Unfortunately, my husband died in a motorcycle accident last year and I have a very hard time taking care of the ducks (cleaning out their coop every other day, giving them fresh water every morning, cleaning out the food bowls, etc). My neighbors also are not too keen on the ducks since they are very loud in the morning. They actually suggested that I take them to our large pond that is just around the corner. When I talked to the park manager, he said that there are already 6 other domesticated ducks (all pekings and Campbell ducks) that were brought to the pond and that they are doing well. I really don't know what to do here. Will they be fine if I take them to the pond? They get fed there all the time so food is not the problem. However, they won't have a coop anymore, yet there is plenty of greenery on the water were all the ducks nest. Predators have not been a problem either (as far as I was told by the park manager). I have tried to find people to take them in, however most people wanted to eat them and I don't want that either. I have to travel to Europe in the next month to take care of my elderly father and I don't know who would take care of the ducks, if I am gone too. I am sure they would love the pond (since we don't have water for them to swim in, just water bowls), yet I am afraid that they will miss their home. I am looking for advice here. I want to do what is best for them, yet I can't keep them either as much as I would love to. Thank you.
