Im looking for some blue or lavender Araucana chicks ( female)for sale. Is there a good hatchery that has some (not easter eggers) I ended up with some just beautiful blue and black Ameracana Roos that I want to put with them. I have one Rumpless Araucana Roo now that is red and green and loves his attention and to sit on my shoulder when I walk around. Im currently in the process of switching from my Easter eggers to pure Ameracana and Araucana chickens. I have been doing research and it suggests to use a Ameracana Rooster with Araucana hens work best. I would like to find a hatchery that has the blue or lavender Araucana chicks.

Are you in the US? If you are, then unfortunately you are out of luck. No hatchery has Araucanas. Very few even have true Ameraucanas.

Why would you go through the trouble to find true Ameraucana and Araucana and then mix breed them? Just curious.

Also do you have a pic of that red and green rooster? Never seen a chicken that was green. Are you sure someone didn't slip you a parrot? That would explain the setting on your shoulder also.

I have been told that if I take my Araucana rooster and put him with Araucana hen they have a genetic issue that causes 25%-50% change of not even making it out of the shell. So right now I just have him with my pure Ameraucana hens. I also have a black Ameraucana Roo in there with them. My roos were hatched out of a incubator here on the farm (I just got eggs online) Every since they were little they have liked to sit on my shoulder and curl up against my neck and hair. As they got older when I go outside they will fly up and want me to hold them on sit on shoulder and pet them. They are a little spoiled for attention. I have noticed that the ones I hatch out of a incubator are more like this whereas the ones I let the hens hatch and raise are not as common to the extra attention from me. They are still very docile but aren't as interested in being held and carried around.

Yes I am in the U.S. That is what I was thinking I have been looking for a few years and just have not found any. You are right I purchased some of what was supposed to be Ameraucanas from a hatchery online and once they hatched and then started laying I realized that they were just Easter eggers that lay white, cream and brown eggs. They are still wonderful dependable layers and my egg customers love their eggs. Thank you for the info

That is not entirely true. If you breed tufted to tufted birds there is a 25% chance the chick will inherit both tuft genes and die in shell. These stats are over many, many hatches. Earlier this year the president of the Araucana Club had a 95% hatch rate breeding tufted to tufted birds. That was probably all his luck in that one hatch though.
Breeding clean faced to tufted does not have this risk.

Is he tufted?

I dont have a picture of him but the post above I added one that looks very much like him. Here is another one I found that has his coloring but his body shape is more like the first picture. He has the coloring just not as big as this one. He was born last spring. He was the only Araucana that hatched out of his set of eggs in the incubator. I have not tried to hatch anymore of them yet? I have researched and found that they dont have as high of a hatch rate if you mix a Araucana hen with a Araucana. I dont know if that is true or if it was just set of eggs I tried to hatch? Thanks for the help I just dont have enough experience with the Araucana. I have black and lavender Ameraucanas
